Deep Fake Psychosis

The CBC glows hot with lies and propaganda this winter. At the beginning of this war David Common showed us the image of Ukraine’s tiny green Snake Island and told us the “heroic” story of thirteen border guards who told Russia to go fuck itself and were thereafter killed by missile attack. Snake Island is in fact a charmless strategic rock off Ukraine’s coast where 80+ border guards and a few marines were arrested. The BBC had reported the “barbaric” attack and now slimes its way into a retraction. Where is the CBC retraction? Anyone with an ounce of sense could have told you, no one deploys missiles to kill a few civil servants running low on bullets. But, it does perfectly illustrate the level of respect the CBC now has for truth or the collective intelligence of Canadians. Between CBC stories of Canadians pouring Russian Vodka into street sewers like performance art prohibitionists and Mélanie Joly thinking Canada has a hope in hell of “suffocating the Russian regime” it’s enough to make one believe in mass psychosis.

Far more serious are the lies pushed by U.S. officials like retired lieutenant colonel Alexander S. Vindman. This week he falsely reported that Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov had been fired (he wasn’t). Within hours of that Vindman also posted a deep fake of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov claiming he would not send troops to Ukraine. (He already has troops there.) Vindman deleted the video after he was proven duped. This man has the ear of President Biden? Ordinary citizens are now fact-checking reality for WH staffers who are included in high-level talks about Ukraine? Journalism could have stopped this if it still existed but, the conspicuous lack of live footage during this war (so far) is frightening. When truth trickles in it is quickly buried under mountains of fakery. The mythical “Ghost of Kyiv” pilot faked with flight simulator game footage as “morale booster”. Photos of a downed “6th Russian Air Force” jet shared by UN representative Mohamad Safa were recycled Saudi casualties from Yemen. The little blonde “Ukrainian” girl who confronted an “evil” Russian soldier was in fact, Palestinian Ahed Tamimi long ago blossomed into womanhood. It’s endless.

The lack of critical thinking from officials and politicians is sadly not surprising. During the “illegal” trucker protests Liberal MP Ya’ara Saks actually stood up in parliament and claimed – “…Honk Honk is an acronym for Heil Hitler” and that this therefore confirms protests in Ottawa were expressions of Nazi white supremacy. She added to her mistake by referring to various 4Chan Twitter threads “explaining” it. Imagine living in a country governed by people who get their facts from 4Chan? No one has ever explained to her that 4Chan is a hive of trolls who are willing to twist truths and fake anything for laughs. They have NO politics and no goal other than scoring points with each other. To decidedly conclude that average Canadians honking twice or tweeting “honk honk” were necessarily invoking Hitler as avowed Nazis is absurd. This MP is a fool equal in stupidity to Marjorie Taylor Greene who recently (and hilariously) referred to the “gazpacho police” who patrol the Capitol building. And it would all be hilariously funny if these people weren’t also now making decisions about important things – like WAR.

I could go on but I’ll settle here. Let’s talk about what media like the CBC thinks is happening on the “cyber war” front. Nothing meaningful is actually happening. Taking a Russian website down is the equivalent of pulling someone’s socks off a clothesline. This kind of “news” excites fools and Liberal MPs only. (Do not click on links offered by Anonymous as “proof” that they’ve “hacked Russia” or you will get exactly what you deserve.) So far all the DDoS attacks have done very little they weren’t already doing on an average Tuesday and Russians are well-prepared for it. The media has claimed there is heavy recruiting of cybersecurity “hackers” to “cyber attack” Russia. There is not. At best, there have been calm industry-wide discussions about “if” this is even a good idea. An overwhelming majority of qualified professionals, when asked to hack another country during a time of conflict, have told governments to go fuck themselves. There’s a good reason for this. When it comes to the state of cybersecurity in the western world, we’re all living in glass houses.

“A reminder that Anonymous is a laughable attempt at hacktivism and have done nothing but post dumb scanning results on pastebin and exploit tragedies and social movements for likes for years and years.”
