There’s a room full of horrors at Dalhousie University. Inside you’ll find cats with their eyes sewn shut. These cats live out their last few agonizing months this way and are euthanized at the end of each semester. The University claims the cats are adopted out thereafter, it’s a lie. Amongst several dozen adult cats a few kittens are added. They’re adopted out, the rest are dissected and incinerated. Cats have been dying this way at Dalhousie University for decades now. There have been efforts to stop it, all efforts have failed. Why? This is the true face of modern science, a perennial room full of cats with their eyes sewn shut. When you invoke “science” and hold it up as a paragon of truth – you’re actually talking about that room.
Why does this happen? It’s the structure of modern scientific research itself. If you hate organized religion; you’ll find no solace in scientific research. It’s a highly ritualized and exclusive process of industry, dominated by figures who rise in its ranks politically with the help of financial backers. Statistics are often manipulated and numbers are “cooked” to give desired results. Don’t be naive, the Marie Curie era ended nearly a century ago. Science today isn’t about truth and discovery, it’s about a “truth” which is commonly agreed upon by a peer-reviewed system in search of sustained profit. That system demands conformity from the people to whom it grants academic accreditation. It also demands repetition.
Each year experiments are proposed at Dalhousie which involve the mutilation of living animals. When a new semester arrives, the exact same set of experiments are applied to a new group of animals. The questions are the same, long ago answered. Why do this? Many of these senseless experiments now have only one true purpose, to weed out students with a conscience. This is how the inherent violence of modern science guarantees that scientists of the future are obedient: to their employers, to their governments and most of all to the industrial for-profit system of modern science. A century ago a company like Pfizer could not talk a small town doctor into prescribing a harmful “off-label” drug to his own neighbours but today, those doctors are easily found. Industry purchased the system that trains scientists and in doing so they renovated “science” itself.
What does this mean for us? As a society, we all share in these crimes by allowing them to continue and the burden of conscience is a heavy one. Our society has more vegans than ever before yet, we’re no longer asking questions about animal testing. We asked these questions years ago, what changed? If science is about truth, integrity, discovery and ethics then we, as a society, lost science long ago. And it should have been obvious to us when politicians began using “science” as their guiding principle. Why would professional liars so comfortably begin wrapping themselves in the cloak of “science” during a pandemic? Because it works, because it poses absolutely no risk to their financial backers and because, science is no longer science.
